Cycling or walking to the office not only helpful in reducing air pollution, but also can make people healthier. A study at Glasgow University in Scotland found that cycling to the office can reduce the risk of cancer or heart disease by half. A study in 2008 found that cycling for 1.5 hours can reduce the risk of cancer by 34%; cycling everyday can increase the survival rates on cancer patients up to 33%, and the risk of death caused by cancer decreases by 12% for every hour spent for moderate exercise. Meanwhile, Gill's new study looked for the connection between the activity and the incidence of heart disease, cancer, and death in general by looking at 260 thousand datas of parents aged 53 in British Biobang, a database which keeps biological information of half a million British adults. The participants named the type of vehicle used for the office. It shows that cycling has the lowest risk on getting heart disease, cancer, and other causes of death in general. Overall, those who cycle have a risk of early death 41% lower than those who don't. Walking to the office is also beneficial for health, but not as much as cycling. Furthermore, compared to cycling, walking has a risk of early death by 27% lower.
